Preparations for Christmas are underway throughout Norway. Only in little Elise's village is no one looking forward to the big celebration. No wonder: because here people forget even the simplest things. Even in winter, some of them to put on long pants, even in winter. And at school, often nobody knows what what should be taught.
On December 24th, little Elise wakes up with the strange feeling that this day is special. But she simply can't remember. When Elise finds a dusty wooden box in the attic with 24 painted doors bearing the words "Merry Christmas", she thinks she has found a hot lead to solving the mystery. She makes her way to the carpenter of the box, who immediately recognizes the seriousness of the situation: the entire village has forgotten Christmas. He knows of only one person who can help them now - a man with a white beard and a red coat, whom Elise has never heard of. But the three of them don't have much time left to revive the villagers' memories of the most wonderful time of the year. An unforgettable night full of wonder begins for Elise.
"An enchanting children's film that uses its absurd premise for entertaining slapstick and laconic humor. Staged in a style that is as fairytale-like as it is imaginative, it celebrates the childlike joy of celebration and community." (Michael Ranze, filmdienst.de)
