To mark the 150th anniversary of the death of the Low German writer Fritz Reuter, the special exhibition "Mosaik up Platt - Die Abrafaxe zu Besuch bei Fritz Reuter" is currently on display at Dömitz Fortress. Abrax, Brabax and Califax, the heroes of the comic magazine MOSAIK, have been traveling around the world and through time for over 40 years. The exhibition focuses on their great Hanseatic adventure, which was published in Low German in 2022, just as Reuter intended.
In "De Schatz von de Likedeelers", the three go in search of pirate treasure in medieval towns such as Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund. In the process, they learn more about the Hanseatic League, the alliance of merchants for trade and cultural exchange.
The special exhibition shows similarities between Reuter, the founder of modern Low German literature, and the Abrafaxen from Germany's longest serialized comic strip. In addition to the entertaining transfer of knowledge in Low German, the focus is on the artistic creative process. To this day, the MOSAIK is still drawn on paper with brush and ink, just like in Reuter's day. In addition, Abrax, Brabax and Califax can tell stories about their stays in dungeons, just like Fritz Reuter, who spent the last year of his fortress term (1839 - 1840) at Dömitz Fortress. In the novel "Ut mine Festungstid", he takes a humorous look back at the time of his imprisonment for "high treason".
The exhibition was conceived by the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum in Stavenhagen together with MOSAIK Steinchen für Steinchen Verlag from Berlin. The Hanseatic adventures were translated by the author Susanne Bliemel. Following the presentation in Stavenhagen, the exhibition is now being made available to the partner museum Festung Dömitz. It can be seen until September 1, Wednesdays to Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm.
The exhibition is financially supported by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
