Czech Culture Days with Ondřej Macl (Prague) "Dear Babička"
A staged reading by the author with actress Elna Lindgen (Berlin)
Czech author Ondřej Macl and Berlin actress Elna Lindgen present the poetic text "Liebe Babička", which lovingly explores the relationship between the lyrical self and his grandmother.
In his literary debut, Ondřej Macl captures memories of childhood and puberty and reflects on the last years of his grandmother's life, which were characterized by loneliness and illness. With references to antiquity and religion, he questions the roles of grandmothers (and thus also mothers) in the field of tension between tradition and the cult of youth, myth and everyday life, patriarchy and feminism. Macl's multi-layered "love song against youth" - and for old age - is presented in an artfully comical way, demystifying many a myth, including death.
The original "Miluji svou babičku víc než mladé dívky" was published in 2017, the German translation by Julia Miesenböck was published by Parasitenpresse in 2023.
Ondřej Macl (*1989) studied acting, comparative literature, social work and journalism. In his artistic work, he experiments at the interface of art, science, philosophy and religion.
The Berlin-born German-Finnish actress and speaker Elna Lindgens received her artistic training at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Engagements have taken her to Tübingen, Augsburg and Brandenburg. Elna Lindgens has been working as a freelance artist since 2015.
