Maritime archaeology and port facilities in the Baltic Sea region
In summer 2025, the traditional ship archaeology seminar of the Gesellschaft für Schiffsarchäologie e.V. (in the Landesverband für Unterwasserarchäologie M-V) will be held for the 25th time. The aim of this training series is to impart basic knowledge in the field of ship archaeology in theory and practice. The seminar is aimed at students and divers interested in archaeology who want to get to know shipwrecks not only as fascinating diving destinations, but also as particularly informative historical sources.
Over six consecutive days, the course provides basic knowledge in the fields of "Ship archaeology and port facilities in the Baltic Sea region", monument law and various prospecting and documentation techniques in theory and practice.
In the practical part, the basics of prospecting shipwrecks and hydraulic engineering structures are taught. After measuring exercises on the beach, boat and beach dives are on the program. The methods will be learned on a shipwreck in Warnemünde Bay and a historic harbor facility.
