FiSH - Filmfestival Rostock has been the spring event for the young German and Northern European film scene since 2004. The focus is on the nationwide competition JUNGER FILM and the Northern European competition OFFshorts - Young Baltic Cinema with the best short films of the year.
With its young and bold program, the festival presents the artistic works of up-and-coming filmmakers as well as of already professional filmmakers - if they are not older than 26 years.
A unique feature of FiSH are the public jury discussions. In addition to the discussions with the filmmakers, the jury discussions also take place live on stage and in front of an audience. This form of discussion offers insights into the jury's work, constructive criticism and new perspectives, both for filmmakers and the audience.
But that's not all: in cooperation with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Media Authority (MMV), the M-V Media Competence Awardis presented annually forthe best media education projects in the state. Together with PopKW e.V., FiSH organizes the PopFiSH music video award and selects the best music video in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition, there are film gems in the accompanying film program as well as workshops, hands-on and community events.
FiSH attracts more than 3,000 film enthusiasts to the venues along the Hanseatic city's city harbor every year. Since 2017, the festival has been under the patronage of the Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig.
