Franz Schubert - String Trio D741, Alfred Schnittke - String Trio, Ludwig van Beethoven - String Trio op. 9, No. 3
With Beethoven, Schubert and Schnittke, three grand masters of Viennese music history are on the program. Schubert, who was the torchbearer at Beethoven's funeral, is said to have said of Beethoven: "Who can do anything after Beethoven?". Beethoven, for his part, was enthusiastic about his colleague: "Truly, a divine spark dwells in Schubert!". For Schnittke, on the other hand, "all musical styles of the present should be available in the sense of a spiral of time".
