"They are among the purest, most serene, most delightful, most perfect that has ever taken musical form", wrote the musicologist Alfred Einstein about Mozart's Lodronische Nachtmusik. While the natural horns support the string quartet here and occasionally leave the field to the strings for an entire movement, the two horn players are able to shine with breakneck virtuosity in the second piece of the concert, Beethoven's Sextet op. 81b in E flat major.
