Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade Symphonic Suite op. 35The symphonic suite Scheherazade, inspired by fairy tales from the Arabian Nights, is one of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's most effective and successful works. Written in 1888, the composer takes up the Persian stories with dazzling instrumental colors and depicts a fantastic oriental fairytale world with his music.
In the first half of the concert, Spanish conductor Pablo Mielgo brings works from his home country. In addition to Joaquín Turina's string piece La oración del torero, Manuel de Falla's Nights in Spanish Gardens for piano and orchestra will be performed. De Falla was inspired by the painter Santiago Rusiñol, who captured colorful impressions of the incomparable beauty of Spanish gardens in his paintings. The real reason why this work was written is none other than to evoke places, moods and feelings, according to the composer in 1916. The young Spanish pianist and winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition Martín García García will take on the solo part of the Symphonic Impressions.
