Not far from the village of Lelkendorf you can reach the spring on foot in the middle of the forest after crossing two bridges. An experience for young and old!
Around 1830, two rural estates were established between Neukalen and Lelkendorf. August-Friedrich Schnurstein bequeathed the property to his sons Ernst and Rudolf, called Wittkopp and Schwattkopp. Ernst did not stay long. He sold his farm. Rudolf started a family and managed the farm until his death on 18. 09. 1973. So he was born in 1869 and lived to be 104 years old. The legend says that he became so old because he 'only' drank the ferruginous spring water that bubbled and bubbles from the depths on his plot of land.
