A green oasis lies in the centre of Schwerin, which is characterised by a 3 ha large bird meadow as well as semi-natural animal enclosures, which are a second home to the 650 animals from 120 species. Schwerin zoo is one of the most beautiful in Germany.
Spacious grounds and outdoor enclosures give the animals sufficient freedom of movement and hiding places. Visitors are given a fascinating glimpse into the harmonious coexistence of different species and their typical behaviour. Lions, fox mongooses and meerkats share the same kingdom. Brown bears and wolves live under one roof in the bear forest.
In the waterfowl enclosure, more than 50 bird species find shelter beside the red flamingos. Siberian tigers can be found on the Tiger Hill. There is also a range of recreational facilities such as playgrounds, a research camp, a forest school, a petting zoo and the new frog house. Have something to eat and drink in one of the restaurants or eat your own picnic in the picnic area. At www.zoo-schwerin.de, holidaymakers can find the feeding times of bears, penguins, pelicans and other animals when they can watch the animal keepers feed their charges.
