One of the most romantic places on the Island of Rügen is the village of Vitt. It is hidden in a gorge of the steep coast. From the Vitter beach extends a magnificent view to Cape Arkona.
Vitt has been known for centuries for the "shore sermons" of the priest Gottfried Ludwig Kosegarten, which he held for the fishermen on the cliffs of Vitt. In his honor, construction began in 1806 on the Vitt Chapel, supposedly based on plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, which can still be visited and is used for wedding ceremonies. The wonderful picturesque landscape in the north of the Island of Rügen can be magnificently explored during long walks along the Vitter beach with a view to Cape Arkona.
