On the north-western steep bank of Lake Tollensesee, probably the most unusual viewpoint in Neubrandenburg stands out among the trees - the Belvedere in the shape of a Greek temple.
In 1775, Adolf Friedrich IV, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, had a summer house built there on a hill. It was later demolished. In 1823, Grand Duchess Marie had a new tea and summer house in the form of a Greek temple built on the site of the old Belvedere by master builder Wilhelm Buttel. In 1934, a memorial for those from Mecklenburg-Strelitz who died in the First World War was built according to plans by architect Heinrich Tessenow. In 1995, the building was restored as an open temple. Today, you can tie the knot at Belvedere in a dreamlike landscape on Lake Tollensesee with a unique panoramic view.
