The name is deceptive, because in 17 rooms, on 2000m² of exhibition space and in the open-air grounds, you will find the region's largest museum of everyday history - a museum to touch and try out.
A museum of a special kind is located in the former guest house of the monastery and castle complex in Dargun. It is a comprehensive collection of ordinary and extraordinary. The exhibits once belonged to the house, yard and garden, were needed in the old crafts or used by our ancestors in agriculture or forestry. In the medicine room you can find utensils of country doctors, dentists and veterinarians. The "office" of the stationmaster, as it can be seen, was saved from the station at the end of Dargun's railroad history. The exhibition on flight and expulsion at the end of the 2nd World War with original accounts of the experiences of those affected is remarkable; it also attracted a great deal of attention on northern television. On the spacious open-air grounds and on the threshing floor, the museum visitor will find further agricultural equipment and machines. Almost all of them are in working order - they are there to be touched and tried out. Dare to try them out! Swing the blacksmith's hammer yourself, hit the shoemaker's shoes with a piece of cheese or work on wood on an old draw bench in the wheelwright's workshop. And don't miss the lovingly laid out farm garden. "Uns lütt Museum", run by an association on a voluntary basis, grew into a representative museum. With much love, its dedicated members have designed the exhibition rooms, maintain the historic machines and tools and organize special exhibitions and action days.
