The submarine is located in the city harbor of Sassnitz below the pedestrian bridge. The boat is equipped with original preserved furnishings, information boards provide facts and details. Visitors can dive daily into the depths of their imagination and explore the unique world of the submarine H.M.S. Otus. At the bow, visitors slip through the emergency exit into the torpedo room and start their tour. The almost completely preserved furnishings give a vivid impression of the working and living conditions of the former 6 officer and 62 crew grades.
Powered by two diesel-electric engines, Otus reached a speed of up to 17 knots under water (diving depth: up to 300 meters). It was considered one of the best submarines of its time and had a reputation for being amazingly quiet, from which its name "Silent Hunter" is derived. A periscope provides a great panoramic view of Sassnitz harbor. Technology enthusiasts enjoy spending time in the navigation and echo sounder rooms. Authentic soundscapes created by room acoustic systems accompany visitors on the submarine tour.
