The tree house is a baroque building from the middle of the 18th century. The building with the two Swedish heads in front of the portal takes its name from the turnpike that used to be here.
The eponymous "tree" was a floating long timber that served to close off the harbor entrance. It was closed during the night or in case of imminent danger.
The Baumhaus am Alten Hafen in Wismar opened the permanent exhibition "Maritime Traditions Center" on 05.04.2019.
