Sculpture by Walther Preik
On the bank of the Binnenmüritz in the park at the Kietz stands on a pedestal of granite the bronze she-wolf, created in 1985.
She sings under the trees the moon over the water and creates associations that include human feelings such as threat, lament and will to survive. Possibly the motif of the Lupa Romana as a sacred animal in Roman mythology was taken up here. In the symbolic meaning of immortality and eternity, the she-wolf is found in many images of Roman antiquity.
The sculptor Walther Preik was born on 5.3.1932 in Massow. He first completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason from 1947 to 1950. Then he attended the technical school for applied arts in Wismar and until 1958 the College of Fine Arts in Dresden. After earning his diploma there, he came to Waren (Müritz) to live and work here as a freelance artist. Especially with his animal sculptures and fable figures he became known and has left his artistic mark everywhere in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Especially in Waren (Müritz) you can find many works in public space. Walther Preik passed away on 11.5.2018 in Waren (Müritz).
