A technical school was opened in Neustadt-Glewe as early as 1882. However, the technical secondary school for the building trade and for mechanical and mill engineering was initially located at the historic castle. On November 4, 1890, the new technical school in Ludwigsluster Straße was ceremoniously inaugurated.
The new technical center, built in the classicist style, brought great advantages for the city. With its inauguration, even more master craftsmen and technicians could be trained in Neustadt-Glewe, now also in the trades of carpentry and electrical engineering. Only three years later, 454 students attended the technical center, which offered excellent training opportunities at the time. So it is hardly surprising that in 1902 two students from Neustadt-Glewe caused quite a stir. They explored the town's surroundings in an automobile they had built themselves and ensured that the Technikum was talked about beyond the borders of Lewitz. Only a few years later, another student made headlines. Probably the first aviation pioneer in Mecklenburg was also a student at the Neustadt Technikum. In 1910, he built a biplane with two propellers, and in the 1930s a glider was also developed and built here. The good reputation of the educational institution led to students coming from the kingdoms of Prussia, Bavaria and Saxony, from the free Hanseatic cities of Hamburg, Lübeck and Bremen, as well as from Switzerland, Russia, Brazil, Finland, Holland, Austria-Hungary and Egypt. Nevertheless, the Technikum was closed in 1935 to make way for a flying school. The building experienced a completely different use in 1945/46, when the city urgently needed a hospital and military hospital. Today, the Technikum once again houses an educational institution. Dental and agricultural professions are taught there.
