The atonement stone in Gingst is a memorial stone dating back to the Middle Ages in honor of the priest Laurentius Krintze.
The atonement stone is located near the outer choir wall of St. Jacob's Church in Gingst. Originally it was erected as a murder stele to commemorate the murder of the priest Laurentius Krintze in 1554. At the beginning of the 18th century, however, the stele was converted into a gravestone. Together with two other atonement stones from the Island of Rügen, this murder cheek is a testimony to the then prevailing law of the fist, to which many people fell victim.
