The Landestheater in Neustrelitz is rich in tradition and invites audiences of all ages to enjoy plays and musical theater. Every summer, the theater stages opulent operetta productions open air during the festival in the castle garden.

As part of the Theater- und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz, the Landestheater offers a wide-ranging program for young and old every season. Here, opera and drama performances, concerts and guest performances of various genres are on the schedule. Regular guests are the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the German Dance Company Neustrelitz.
The summer months are rounded off by the Festspiele im Schlossgarten (Festival in the Castle Garden) with impressive operetta performances against the picturesque backdrop of the castle garden and the castle church in Neustrelitz. Next year, "Carmen", one of the most successful opéra-comique by Georges Bizet, will once again delight the audience.

The building of the Landestheater Neustrelitz goes back to the riding house at the castle garden. The building, which was erected between 1755 and 1758 according to the French model, was converted into a redoubt hall in 1769 by master mason Martin Seydel and inaugurated by the "Herzogliche Gesellschaft teutscher Schauspieler". Used as a standing court theater from 1775, the building preserved its outer shell until the morning of January 15, 1924. After a performance of Richard Wagner's romantic opera "Tannhäuser", the building burned to the ground and was completely rebuilt in a modern style within four years by the architect Prof. Max Littmann from Munich. In May 1945, the building burned down again, and it was not until 1954 that it was reopened in its original form, this time as the "Friedrich Wolf Theater" of the then district of Neubrandenburg.
Since 1991, the tradition-rich house has once again been called the Landestheater. The auditorium seats 400 people. It is also the seat of the artistic management, workshops and administration of the Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz and houses the Theater Club.
