With a total size of 37 km² and about 2,700 inhabitants, the small island of Poel is not only the seventh largest island in Germany, but has also become a popular tourist destination. There is a lot of history on offer here, but also a lot for active people, nature lovers, music lovers, bon vivants and families.


The spa administration is your contact for all questions about the island and for excursions in the surrounding area. An example of the many offers are cultural events such as the festival and church concerts with wonderful atmosphere, enchanting ambience and acoustics, for which the spa administration takes care of the advance ticket sales. The offer also includes accommodation and the sale of fishing permits, souvenirs, postcards, hiking maps, books and much more. The spa administration is open daily from May to September and from Monday to Friday in the other months.

Museum of the History of the Hanseatic City of Wismar in the Schabbell

World Heritage House Wismar

Water Gate Wismar

Surfspot Zierow

Surfspot Pepelow

The spot at the Salzhaff offers shallow water deluxe! You can park in front of or on the campsite. Day tickets are available at the reception. The Salzhaff is very shallow and the standing area is therefore extremely large. Especially windsurfers have to walk further out at low tide so that the fin doesn't involuntarily become an anchor. Pepelow shows its best side with southwest to north.

Wohlenberger Wiek surf spot

The Wohlenberger Wiek is for the most part under nature protection. Nevertheless, you can really let off steam here with kites and sails. For this purpose, the municipality has set up a surfing zone from May 1 to September 15. The protected location makes the Wohlenberger Wiek a flawless shallow water playground with wind from west to northeast.

Wismar, Holy Spirit Church
