This stone commemorates Ferdinand von Schill, a Prussian officer who fought against the French occupation forces in Stralsund.
On May 25, 1809, Ferdinand von Schill rode into the city of Stralsund at the head of his regiment. A few days later, the freedom fighter fell here in Fährstraße, fatally shot by a bullet. On the night of May 31, 1835, his admirers left this memorial plaque in the street pavement at the exact spot where Schill had fallen.
