Viewpoints, Piers

In 1793 Friedrich Franz I founded the first German seaside resort: Heiligendamm. Today, the white bathing villas and the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm attract thousands of visitors every year. From the panoramic pier you have the best view of the classicistic ensemble.

After the bathing in July 1793 Friedrich Franz I was enthusiastic about the idea to build a public seaside resort. Following the English models in Brighton and Bath, the monarch ordered the construction of white houses built in simple, timeless elegance along the "Sacred Dam".

If you want to get a taste of the air in the first German seaside resort, you can not only stroll along the promenade, but also take a walk through the 74,000 square metre spa forest, which is not far from the beach villas and was opened in May 2009. The trails lie entirely on the historic paths, but have been carefully widened to allow walkers a comfortable stay. On the forest meadow near the Catholic church, a place for public spa events has been created directly in the spa forest.
