The Slavic hilltop castle dates back to the 9th century and is located on the Recknitz meadows at the edge of the Schulenberger Holz forest.
With its origin in the 9th century, Schulenberg Castle belongs to the Slavic complexes of the Middle Ages. Already from the road to Marlow you can see the first artificial depression, which testifies to the complex behind it. Not so much of the castle itself is preserved. What can be seen is an approx. 8 m high rampart, which runs in a ring around a higher plateau. With a length of 80 m and a width of 65 m it rather belongs to the medium-sized fortifications. Today, the only evidence of the core castle, which was surrounded by the aforementioned rampart, is a mound that provided enough space for a tower and a building. Due to the proximity to an old riverbed, it is not excluded that the castle once had another moat. It is assumed that there was a settlement in front of the castle and that the complex served more as a refuge castle, i.e. it was built in a similar way as Groß Raden. The atmosphere of Schulenberg Castle is pleasantly rustic and quiet.
