Schmiedeberg is a popular viewpoint on the beach of Rerik.
The Schmiedeberg towers proudly on the beach of Rerik. It is the remnant of an old Slavic castle rampart from the 8th century. In 1872, a large part of it fell victim to a storm tide. Apart from Cape Arkona, the Schmiedeberg is the only known castle rampart directly on the Baltic Coast in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Today, Schmiedeberg is a popular destination for excursions. Visitors are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of the Salzhaff, the Wustrow Peninsula and the Baltic Sea. In a small airy pavilion, one can recover from the exertions of the climb and enjoy the view.
