Former site of the duke's castle.
The castle of the Dukes of Pomerania-Wolgast used to stand on Wolgast Castle Island. During the 30 Years' War in the 17th century, a cannonball hit the powder tower of the castle, so that as a result only a ruin remained, which was demolished in the 18th century. For the reconstruction after the great city fire, stones from the castle ruins were also partially used. Today, the names Schlossinsel (Castle Island) and Schlossstraße (Castle Street) as well as the display board there with explanations about the castle and its history refer to the former ducal castle.
