Venue within the Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz
The Schauspielhaus, a half-timbered building, is Mecklenburg's oldest surviving theater building.Around 1780 it was built by order of the sovereign, Duke Adolf Friedrich IV of Strelitz, together with the Marstall on Behmenstraße and the ducal palace for his summer residence. In the course of time, the playhouse experienced a varied history. Various touring groups and the Neustrelitz court theater made guest appearances and popular meetings were held here. The building survived the last World War, but slowly fell into disrepair after 1945.From 1990 to 1994 it was renovated and has since served as a theater within the Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz.
