The Reiherberg is with 143 m one of the highest elevations in the Feldberg lake district and offers a really fantastic view over the Haussee with the two picturesque islands to the silhouette of Feldberg.
The Reiherberg can be reached on foot via the Reinhard-Barby-Höhenweg. It is located north of the main village of Feldberg and offers a phenomenal overview of the main village of the lake district. Because it is also 60 meters above the lake level of Haussee, the mountain is one of the highlights on the hiking route in both senses of the word. However, it must be noted that the Heron Mountain is by no means a mountain in the classical sense, but rather - like all landscape forms around Feldberg - a component of the glacial series. More precisely, the elevation is described by the term of a glacial break-off edge, which was formed when the dead ice thawed. The Reiherberg is especially beautiful in the early morning, when the fog is lifting over the adjacent Haussee, or on New Year's Eve. From here you can watch the pyrotechnical activities of the inhabitants of Feldberg. But also at all other times the mountain shows its graceful side. Because of its beauty, the Heron Mountain attracts not only hikers, but also cyclists. In addition, carriage rides through the surrounding beech forest are offered regularly, during which the mountain cannot be missed as an attraction.
