Every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon, the public presentations explain the planetary motions, the most beautiful constellations and the starry sky in general. This is done with the help of a projection on the seven-meter-high dome ceiling. Or on Fridays, in good weather, live with the telescope. Demonstrations Summer season Wed + Sun 2.30 p.m., Fri 8 p.m. Winter season Wed + Sun 2.30 p.m., Fri 7 p.m.
The Schwerin Observatory was opened in 1962 as a school observatory. In the public demonstrations, visitors - private individuals, schoolchildren or even groups - learn which constellations, planets or other spectacular celestial bodies can currently be observed. If you want to have a look at the real sky, come on Friday evening. On a clear day, the round roof above the observatory platform opens to reveal the huge telescope. Together with the instructors of the astronomical association, the nocturnal celestial bodies are observed.
With its approximately 50 visitor seats, the Schwerin Planetarium is one of the smaller ones. However, this also has advantages, because there is much more time for personal questions of the visitors. Outside of the public events, special presentations can also be arranged for groups.
