The landscape park was originally designed by court gardener Theodor Klett and belonged to a grand ducal estate. The English-style park on a steep bank above Lake Schwerin incorporates existing trees and opened up to the landscape and the village of Raben Steinfeld with picturesque view axes.
The park is picturesquely situated on a steep bank at the southeastern end of Schwerin Lake. Historically, the park was laid out with wide axes of view all the way to Schwerin with its cathedral and castle; the tree population, which has grown tall in the meantime, still allows this view in today's times through dense foliage.
From 1849 a model estate of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was established in the village of Raben Steinfeld. A small grand ducal palace (not open to the public) and a teahouse have also been preserved. The grand-ducal family often spent their summer holidays here. The country houses were built with ornate gables in the English style and embedded in the park landscape.
