The Nikolaikirche Rostock is not only a meeting place for church, art and culture, it also offers unique living and working spaces.
1230 Start of construction, 1942 heavily destroyed, the nave and the tower burned out, the organ as well as the baroque pulpit fell victim to the flames. In 1976 the tower, the church roof and the nave were rebuilt, apartments were built in the roof, today it is a venue for events (concerts, markets, exhibitions).
The organ comes from the Philippus Church in Rummelsberg/Bavaria. It was solemnly consecrated in Rostock in April 2002. Directly under the choir is the Schwibbogen, a narrow and low street passage. Above the Schwibbogen is a restored image of St. Nicholas in front of the silhouette of Rostock.
