The Natural Heritage Centre Rügen with treetop path and experience exhibition is open 364 days a year so that you can experience and get to know nature all year round.

Nature is something there every day and always new. Spring, summer, autumn or winter – in the beech forest in Prora, every time it looks different, it smells different, it feels different.

Visitors start on the – barrier-free! – treetop path. As the gradient is no more than 6%, the path can also be easily mastered by prams and wheelchair users. Balancing and experiment stations are dotted along the route. A stiff crank demonstrates just how much energy a tree needs to pump water from its roots into the crown. A specially adjusted pair of binoculars simulates the microscopically-sharp visual acuity of an eagle. Then onwards and upwards to the platform, always circling the beech tree and accompanied by the story of an eaglet that has fallen out of the nest.

Once at 40 m above sea level, the small white-tailed eagle slips back into its nest and offers visitors a spectacular view of the island. The total height is 82 m above sea level, so that on a good day you can even make out the church spires of Stralsund and the pylons of the Rügen bridge. With a bit of luck, from the top of the tower modelled after an eagle’s nest, you may even spot the local white-tailed eagles circling around the surrounding forest. Then it’s back down the same way where the tour ends in the environmental information centre with the exhibitions, a shop and the “Boomhus” restaurant.
