Hagenow is the gateway to the Griesen Region in southwestern Mecklenburg. The museum, founded in 1974, is dedicated to everyday life in the countryside and in the city - from the Stone Age to the more recent past.
The museum for everyday culture of the Griese Gegend has an extensive collection and presents its modern permanent exhibition in a farmhouse from 1828 as well as in other historical outbuildings. In addition to the development of the natural and cultural area "Griese Gegend" and the history of the town of Hagenow, the focus here is on exciting aspects of living and farming, traditional crafts as well as the development of technology and industrialization. There is much to discover: Archaeological finds such as the "Hagenower Fürstengräber" (Hagenow princely graves), a steam engine from 1902, the "Fischer & Havemann" machine factory from the 1920s and an employee's apartment from around 1940. A historic restaurant and a cobbler's workshop as well as exhibitions on the subject of forest glass and railroad history complement the newly designed permanent exhibition at this research and educational institution.
