The megalithic grave Nipmerow is a passage grave and therefore a rarity among the megalithic graves on the Island of Rügen.
Before the emergency excavation in 1983, the mound was interpreted as a Bronze Age burial mound, but it turned out to be a special feature of Rügen among the large stone graves: an east-west oriented passage grave with four capstones, i.e. a grave with an adjoining passage on the long side, in this case the north side. The two discovered Slavic body graves in the mound prove the repeated use of the grave about 4500 years later.
