Consisting of three parts, the old town island, the monastery and the new town, Malchow is integrated into the south of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The island is located in the middle of Lake Malchow and can be reached via a swing bridge that opens for boat traffic or via the earth dam. The historic town center on the island houses the town hall building with a former prison wing. Various hotels and restaurants invite visitors to enjoy the view and relax.
After the island houses caught fire twice, it was decided to leave alleys between individual houses to stop renewed fires from encroaching. Today, these passages are used for small viewpoints directly on the water, so that one can admire the surrounding countryside in every direction.
