No matter from which direction you come to Krakow am See, the observation tower on theJörnberg welcomes you. For climbing the 126 steps of the tower, the visitor is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of the glittering Krakow lake labyrinth.
Tower history
The most famous landmark of the climatic health resort looks back on more than 100 years of historical development on the peninsula Jörnberg in an exposed position. First erected in 1897 as a wooden lookout tower, the foundation stone of a 16.25 m high Bismarck tower with a flagpole was laid at the beginning of July 1907in the course of Bismarck worship. The building material used was Lolat reinforced concrete. Visitors could enjoy the view from a height of ten meters. Above the entrance door in the form of an arch was the inscription "Bismarck Tower / 1907". The tower fell victim to a blast in 1945 because "a field telephone was located there during wartime operations."
The present observation tower
From November1944 to June1995, a new 27.70 m high lookout tower was built on the former site of the Bismarck Tower, which was opened to visitors for the first time on July 1, 1995.

The current observation platform of the tower is located more than 100 m above sea level. On the parapet are engraved in metal distances for the North and South Poles and for various cities and countries.
