The circular cycle route leads along easy paths through the meadow landscapes typical of this region, through dense forests and original villages. There are no major climbs to overcome along the way, and those who wish can take shortcuts in many places - or pedal a little further on the Mecklenburg Lakes Cycle Route.
Old mills, beautiful castles
A good starting point for the trip is Neustadt-Glewe, about 30 kilometers south of the State capital Schwerin. In this small town you can admire two castles, but above all one of the best preserved medieval castles in Mecklenburg. The building also houses the town information center, which provides maps. Let's go! Signs with a green bicycle logo point the way - first in the direction of Banzkow. The Lewitz Mill, the village's landmark, can be seen from afar, where grain was ground until 1958. In the meantime, it has been transformed into a hotel and restaurant serving rustic Mecklenburg fare. You can also spend the night in the Trend Hotel, which also houses the Störtal Museum with an exhibition about "living, working and living in the countryside".
From Banzkow, the tour continues to Crivitz, where it is worth making a detour to the arboretum, which provides extensive knowledge about about 100 tree and 30 shrub species. On the third day, a stop at the 400-year-old Pingelhof is a good idea. At the museum farmstead, guests can smell, feel and taste what country life used to be like. Afterwards, let the wind blow around your nose, enjoy the beauty of nature. And in the evening, enter the harbor of Matzlow-Garwitz with its listed lock before the tour finally leads back to Neustadt-Glewe.
