The representative classicist building on the south bank of the Pfaffenteich was built at the end of the 1860s. Composer Friedrich-Wilhelm Kücken established the foundation that gave the building its name, which supported destitute musicians until 1939. Today, the building houses a restaurant, as well as the state studio of the ZDF.
The imposing residence was built between 1866 and 1868 on the southern shore of Schwerin's Pfaffenteich. The Schwerin composer Friedrich-Wilhelm-Kücken first lived in the house and later acquired the building outright. He established a foundation here that housed and provided for musicians in economic hardship. After Kücken's death in 1882, the Kücken Foundation continued this charitable work until the late 1930s. A bust by sculptor Ludwig Brunow in front of the house commemorates the founder.
Today, the state studio of the ZDF has its premises in the house. The first floor also houses the "Friedrichs" cafe & restaurant.
Since 2022, the house of the Kücken Foundation as "Hotel Mondial" also serves as a filming location for the television production of the same name.
