Not far from the narrowest part of the Island of Usedom, between Zempin and Koserow, the two climatic forests of Damerow and Koserow have been created under the direction of the Neu Pudagla forestry office.
From 2011 to 2013, the Koserow climate forest was reforested with English oaks on an area of almost 3.5 hectares. Most of the trees have now grown well and the fence that protected the young trees from game has already been dismantled. However, the beaver also feels very much at home in our climate forest, so that a few trees are no longer standing where they were once planted.
How to find the climate forest in Koserow
The Koserow climate forest is located on the Island of Usedom near the village of Koserow. You can reach the reforestation area via the main road 111, coming from Damerow in the direction of Koserow, at the end of the forest complex turn right over the unrestricted level crossing, drive about 100 m in the direction of Achterwasser. The area is located directly in front of the existing forest.
Forest shares for our climate forests
In all parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a total of over 100 hectares of new forest adapted to climate change have been planted at 19 different locations since 2007. The reforestation of these additional areas was financed by "forest shares" from holidaymakers, residents and companies.
