A tree planting campaign in autumn 2023 marked the start of the development of a new forest in Dreschvitz. This fifth climate forest on the island of Rügen will absorb around 755 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere over the next hundred years.
Here in Dreschvitz on the Island of Rügen, various tree species will form a new forest on an area of 1.5 hectares from 2024. These include, for example, hazel, sweet chestnut, service tree, Atlas cedar and small-leaved lime, framed by twelve other species of woodland edge trees.
How to find the reforestation area in Dreschvitz:
The reforestation area is located in the central western part of the Island of Rügen to the east of the village of Dreschvitz. You can reach the area from Güttin in a northerly direction. From here, follow the signs along Plattenstraße. The area is located east of Heide 8 in 18573 Dreschvitz.
Forest shares for the Dreschvitz climate forest
In the online shop of the ‘Kompetenzzentrum Ökowertpapiere’ you can buy forest shares at a price of 10 euros each for the new Dreschvitz climate forest. In doing so, you are supporting an additional reforestation project directly at your holiday destination!
One forest share represents at least 1m² of newly created climate forest. Even this small area is associated with a wide range of ecosystem services, for example a mixed deciduous forest stores around 49 kg ofCO2 per 1 m² in its biomass over one hundred years. Please note: The forest share is not a security in the sense of stock corporation law, but a voluntary, personal donation for reforestation and climate protection.

Since 2007, more than 100 hectares of new forest adapted to climate change have been planted at 19 different locations in all parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The reforestation of these additional areas was financed by ‘forest shares’ from holidaymakers, residents and companies.
