Somewhat hidden behind a brick wall on Franzosenweg is the former kitchen garden for the grand ducal court. Preserved are also orange house and wine drive.
In the kitchen garden, fruit, vegetables and citrus fruits were grown for the needs of the palace kitchen until World War 1. For the Federal Horticultural Show 2009 in Schwerin, the kitchen garden was restored and useful plants were exhibited. The greenhouse and the orange house are now residential buildings, and part of the area is planted with ornamental plant beds and roses by a non-profit association. The buildings and the garden are part of the Schwerin Residence Ensemble.
