In the old clothier and shoemaker town of Parchim, Kay Gundlack finds the peace and inspiration he needs to create his bespoke shoes. Stars and celebrities order shoes from him and sometimes he even flies around the world to take measurements. In the specialist workshop in Parchim on the Elde River, visitors can watch the master at work in his shoe factory.
Kay Gundlack only uses the finest leather is to make his custom-made shoes, because, for him, the feet are often neglected "wonders of nature", which do heavy work every day and which one should not force into bad footwear. Kay Gundlack wants to involve his customers in the creative process: "The craft is underestimated today, because people are not familiar with the effort and the creative work. With me, customers can watch or even lend a hand if they want."
It takes about 30 hours from the first idea to the finished pair of bespoke shoes. Each individual step is done with great attention to detail and mostly by hand.
For Kay Gundlack, the craft is more than a profession: "I am not dreaming about my life, I'm lucky to be living my dream."
