The Socio-Cultural Center offers an atmospheric platform for many events in the historical ambience: Concerts with live music of various genres, puppetry, theater, cabaret and other live events. In addition, there are changing art exhibitions, regular drawing and ceramics courses and art workshops.
The socio-cultural center is located in the middle of Greifswald's city center in a listed ensemble whose oldest components date back to the 13th century. An idyllic courtyard with historic half-timbered buildings houses artistic workshops and is the venue for open-air concerts in summer. The event hall has an eventful history - Greifswald's oldest church building, metal foundry, bakery - today concerts ranging from classical to jazz, blues to rock are held here year-round, as well as children's theater, performances, and lectures, readings and seminars. A gallery on the upper floor shows changing exhibitions of local and national artists. Artistic techniques are taught in courses and workshops - such as screen printing, intaglio printing, silversmithing, stamp and linoleum cutting, bookbinding, and much more. Two choirs rehearse regularly in the house, there is a sing-along, children's chess, as well as meetings of senior groups. During the vacations, there are hands-on activities for children and puppet shows. Another focus is on intercultural encounters with the "Intercultural Café" that takes place every two weeks. The main task of the city's socio-cultural center is to enable as many people of all ages as possible to participate in culture. Active involvement and participation are to be encouraged.Highlights in the cultural calendar of the region, such as the "Literature Spring", the "Nordic Sound", the city festival "A Day with Caspar-David-Friedrich", the "Fantakel Figure", and the "Festival of the Arts" are all part of the program., the "Fantakel-Figurentheaterfestival", the "Intercultural Week", the "Tanztendenzen" and the "polenmARkT" are guests with events at St.Spiritus.
