Academic teaching hospital of the University of Rostock. For 20 years now, the hospital in Bad Doberan has ensured that visitors to our beautiful region feel well taken care of in case of need. However, many vacationers enjoy above all the good feeling of being able to call on the hospital's rapid assistance in an emergency.
During the vacation season, the number of patients in the emergency outpatient department of Bad Doberan Hospital rises sharply every year. The team at the emergency outpatient clinic, which is staffed 24 hours a day, is well prepared for this. Last year, a total of 1,500 vacationers and holidaymakers came to the emergency outpatient clinic of Doberan Hospital; half of them had to be admitted as inpatients afterwards.
The tasks of the team, which works closely with the doctors in the respective specialist department, are wide-ranging. These include determining and compiling all the results of, for example, blood tests, ECG, ultrasound, video-assisted endoscopy, X-rays or computer tomography (CT). The examination of the patients is carried out by a physician from the respective specialist department.
The hospital has a clinic for internal medicine with an affiliated acute geriatric ward, a clinic for general surgery, orthopedics and trauma surgery and urology, and a clinic for anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. After diagnosis, the treatment path is determined, and possibly initial therapeutic measures are already initiated. The decision is made whether inpatient treatment is necessary or not.
If there are many patients in the emergency department, the serious injuries and any emergencies announced by the ambulance service are naturally dealt with first. The missions of the ambulances and emergency physicians are already coordinated by the rescue control center. For the care of seriously injured patients, the hospital maintains a so-called shock room. Involving physicians and nurses from various disciplines, the main task here is to maintain or restore the patient's vital functions. For this purpose, the patient is monitored by equipment, ventilated if necessary, and the circulation is stabilized with infusions and transfusions as part of shock control. Furthermore, life-saving emergency interventions can be performed. Further diagnostic steps such as CT or X-rays are performed directly. In addition, a separate helipad is located on the hospital grounds for better emergency care.
The emergency outpatient clinic at Bad Doberan Hospital is thus literally the network in the Doberan network for health tourism, which provides medical assistance to all guests of our vacation region in an emergency.
