The salt from the local salt works was transported to the whole of Mecklenburg in such a wagon.
And once a year, such a wagon was also used to travel to the trade fair in Leipzig. One fall day in 1873, at 5 o'clock in the morning, the carter Johann Fretwurst was standing on the market square with such a covered wagon. There appeared his passengers, Martin Fränkel, Julius Löwenthal and Moritz Michaelsen; all three traded in manufactured goods. With plenty of luggage for the long journey, they wanted to go to Leipzig to the trade fair to do some shopping.
After eight days they arrived in Leipzig; the city resembled an army camp, wagons upon wagons. They spent a week visiting the fair houses to look for bargains. Everyone bought for themselves, because they didn't want to bring the same goods back to Sülze. The goods were taken straight to the wagon; Fretwurst was the man of trust for all three. The return journey was made in the same way. After 8 days they were back in Sülze. Word spread through the town like wildfire: the fair drivers are back!!!!
