The legendary Hertha Lake is located on the Jasmund Peninsula, in the northeast of the Island of Rügen.
In the midst of beech forest and many wetlands lies the legendary Hertha Lake. The beautiful princess Hertha is said to live on the bottom. Every year on St. John's Eve she drives around the lake three times in a golden carriage pulled by 4 white swans. Afterwards, the carriage sinks back into the depths.
Even Caspar David Friedrich, who found many motifs for his drawings and paintings in the breathtaking chalk cliffs, once made his way through the spectacular landscape, past the legendary Hertha Lake.
