The museum of local history, located in one of the oldest buildings in the village of Kloster, is one of the cultural focal points of the island of Hiddensee.
Redesigned a few years ago, the permanent exhibition comprehensively and vividly tells about the life of the people on the island. A replica of the Hiddensee gold treasure, the original of which is in the possession of the Stralsund Museum of Cultural History, is the most valuable exhibit in the exhibition.
Annually changing special exhibitions:
...are devoted to selected themes of Hiddensee's history. Special mention should also be made of the amber collection of Ingolf Engels and the plant table, which is maintained daily during the main season. The museum's offer is rounded off by regular guided tours as well as children's, special and evening events.
