Late Classicist manor house near the Hanseatic City of Wismar
Schmakentin in the Mecklenburg estate near Wismar is older than all the Hanseatic towns in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and became 800 years old on 11.6.2017. The late classicist manor house, heavily overbuilt and stripped of all ornamentation during the GDR era, is not listed as a historic monument. The destruction could be countered by purchase, a non-profit association strives for authentic restoration and advocates for the preservation of ALL manor houses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The park part in front of the house and the apple orchard could be largely restored and completed. The interior will be carefully restored in detail to the state of 1841, when the last owner bought the estate and successfully managed it until 1845. In the foyer, the association offers antiques. Well known are the "Schmakentin giants" (walnuts) and old varieties of apples.
