For the urban and tourist development of the city harbor, the construction of a connecting path in the form of a bridge was indispensable. In March 2010, the pedestrian bridge was awarded the German Bridge Construction Prize in the category "Foot and Cycle Path Bridges". "The new pedestrian bridge in the city harbor of Sassnitz - balcony to the sea - convinces with an optimal combination of form and function ... With its wide-span, bold sweep over a height difference of 22 m, the new bridge delights viewers and users alike," reads the jury's statement. This light and at the same time transparent construction does not obstruct the view over harbor and sea from any point.
