Fischhandel Rasmus is not only the city's most traditional fish store, but also the home of one of Stralsund's cultural assets: the original Stralsund Bismarck herring.
For a quarter of a century we have been offering fresh fish, smoked products, fish salads and fish rolls at Heilgeiststraße 10 in Stralsund. But what makes our small store in the heart of Stralsund's old town special are our pickled herring fillets, which we produce in our own factory according to our unique recipes. They belong to Stralsund like the Sund and our Hanseatic past.
In fact, Stralsund would be unthinkable without the herring. In the Middle Ages, the city owed its wealth primarily to the trade in the small silver fish from the Baltic Sea, and even later the city could not be imagined without herring. The foundation of the first cannery by Johann Wiechmann in Stralsund in the 19th century laid the foundation for the fish industry on the German Baltic coast. What was produced there? Marinated herring fillets, of course! We continue this long tradition here at Fischhandel Rasmus.
