The Rugard - a 91-metre-high wooded elevation on the north-eastern outskirts of Bergen on Island of Rügen, where a Slavic castle stood until 1325 - is now the local recreation area for locals and guests in the center of our island. The mountainous landscape around the former Slavic castle "Rugard" was unwooded until 1830 and clearly visible from all sides. Today, only the Ernst Moritz Arndt Tower, which was completed in 1877 and whose glass dome shines brightly in the sun, peeks out from the treetops. The tower offers an impressive view over the whole island as far as Stralsund, Hiddensee and Cape Arkona. In the forest area around the tower, young and old can enjoy sport, fun and nature - tobogganing at any time of year, slides, go-karting, minigolf, trampoline, nature trail, open-air stage, legendary places and monuments as well as a hotel with restaurant - all in a geographically and biologically very interesting forest area. Here you can, for example, smell the young wild garlic in spring, enjoy sporting activities in the shade of the trees on hot summer days, go sledging or go-karting through the colorful autumn forest and, in winter, take the old wooden sledge out of the cellar again. wooden sledge out of the cellar in winter.
